Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School is an independent, Catholic, college preparatory school for students of all faiths who cannot otherwise afford a private education. Serving as Associate Architect, AEI provided conceptual design services, owner advisory services, and architectural design of the chapel, named the Sanctuary.

Students at Cristo Rey are encouraged to explore and express their own faith traditions and to also understand the beliefs and traditions of their peers, together, in classes, in prayer services, in service programs, in retreats, in religious ceremonies – and in the Sanctuary.

The Cristo Rey Sanctuary reflects the spirit of this mission. The Sanctuary is multi-functional with design features and a layout that is easily modified for the celebration of different religious observances. In this special place all may gather together as Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, people of other faiths, and people of uncertain faith. It is a place where one may come, alone or in community, to contemplate their God, to affirm their common dignity, to express gratitude for their gifts, and to celebrate love of each other.
