Our Team
AEI is comprised of experienced, passionate individuals who deliver innovative designs to meet the needs of the owners we serve. Our firm employs four (4) registered Professional Engineers licensed across the country. The principals you meet at the inception of the job are your primary contact, remain actively involved in the design of your project, and will see the project through to completion.
Our collaborative style ensures we deliver project concepts suited for the individual client. We recognize the vital importance of our clients understanding the engineering issues, so we distill them to their essence and relay them in terminology comprehensible to the layman.
The following team members are our Principals and Senior Associates, with a larger support team for each core team member.

Gerald Fink, PE & LEED AP
Founder and Principal
Gerald Fink exemplifies the modern engineer; practical, clever, and grounded in real world application. After making his name at Kling Lindquist, Jerry managed the Philadelphia office for the Boston-based RG Vanderweil in the mid-nineties. Realizing he had more to offer his clients, Jerry started his own company in 2000, bringing 30 years of engineering experience to his new firm. Since AEI’s inception, Jerry has led the company to become one of the leading names for MEP/FP engineering in the Philadelphia area. Through practical systems, smart solutions, and a genuine understanding of the client’s needs, Jerry has earned excellent reviews from architects, building owners, and project managers alike. He is known for recognizing the importance of client understanding and articulating his resourceful solutions to all of those working on the project. Jerry brings a real-world understanding to each project, having renovated several historic office buildings and homes of his own. He understands the value of money and creates systems that strive to eliminate both economic and energy waste. He has worked on a diverse variety of projects all across the Mid-Atlantic area, providing his expertise in master planning, design, and construction.
Derek Fink, PE & LEED BD+C
Principal
Derek Fink, PE & LEED BD+C
Principal
Derek is an eager and motivated mechanical engineer with diverse consulting engineering experience and a gift for relating and connecting with clients. After graduating from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) in 2007, Derek entered into the MEP consulting engineering field with McHugh Engineering Associates Inc. During his 7 years with the firm, Derek honed experience in mechanical and plumbing design, project management, construction administration, and commissioning through an expansive portfolio of projects. Additionally, Derek was involved in energy modeling, geothermal design, and the LEED commissioning process. Derek’s philosophy aligns with AEI’s commitment to provide cost effective, practical and sustainable designs pursuant to the client’s needs. Much like Jerry, Derek’s hand-on approach allows him to understand not only the theory behind the mechanical and plumbing systems used in the building trade industry, but also the installation and ongoing operations of these systems. His experience with energy management systems has helped clients with installation and commissioning of mechanical systems. His expertise also supports conversions and retro-commissioning of existing systems. Derek brings a fresh, progressive energy to AEI, offering inspired solutions and a keen perspective.
