Institutional / Multi-family Residential

Location: 1200 Cecil B. Moore Ave, Philadelphia PA 19122

General Overview:  Temple University completed a renovation of the Temple Towers Dormitory, a 212,000 sf, 6 story dorm that houses approximately 630 students in 146 apartments. The buildings feature 3, 6, and 7 person apartments, all with private bathrooms and full kitchens. Other building features include a game room, study lounges, computer stations, and an outdoor pool that is opened seasonally.  The building renovation took place over one summer, with the construction preparation in place before school closed.

Special Features: In order to complete the construction during the summer, AEI completed early bid packages, split the work between two contractors, and had all the equipment on site in trailers before spring classes ended. Also, to distribute chilled water through the existing building, AEI used a fiberglass reinforced plastic chilled water loop installed underground around the perimeter of the building, and served the fan coil units stacked vertically.

Construction Value: $20 million

AEI Services Provided: Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection, as well as construction administration services.
